Research Interests
Dr. Zhao devoted most of his time to medical research in assessment of the cardiovascular risk of Chinese population by characterizing the atherosclerosis disease in multiple vascular beds, including intracranial artery, carotid artery, aortic arch, and femoral artery, with state-of-the art MR vessel wall imaging techniques. In this field, he has published 75 research articles in the top peer-reviewed journals on cardiovascular disease and imaging, including Stroke, ATVB, JCMR, JAHA, Atherosclerosis, AJNR, European Radiology, MRM, and JMRI.
As principle investigator, Dr. Zhao has received research funding from Natural Science of Foundation of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of China (National Key R & D Plan in 13th Five-Year), and Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission. He conceived and/or took lead a series of clinical trials and cohort studies in China, such as CARE-II study (n=1000, multicenter study, 2012-2015, NCT02017756), CROP (n=200, community study, 2012-2015), REALM (n=160, multicenter study, 2014-2018, NCT02041117), CAMERA (n=1000, community study, 2015-2018), and ICASMAP (n=300, multicenter study, 2017-2021, NCT03417063). Dr. Zhao has received Jim Pochen Award from International Society of Magnetic Resonance Angiography in 2012.
