The Johns Hopkins biomedical engineering programs have, once again, been named No. 1 in the country according to the annual U.S. News and World Report ranking of the nation’s Best Graduate Schools.
The rankings score programs and institutions based on data in two categories: expert opinion about a program’s excellence and statistical scores based on the quality of a school’s faculty, research, and students. For the 2023 rankings, statistical surveys of more than 2,150 programs and reputation surveys sent to more than 23,200 academics and professionals were conducted in fall 2021 and early 2022. U.S. News also surveyed professionals who hire or work with new graduates.
“The continued success of our graduate programs is attributed to the dedication of our faculty and students, and their unparalleled passion for the field,” said Rachel Karchin, professor of biomedical engineering and co-director of the BME PhD program. “Their enthusiasm for research, collaboration, and education are what make this program remarkable.”
The Hopkins BME graduate program trains students to solve real-world health care and engineering challenges through advanced courses in the life and quantitative sciences and independent research. Students specialize in one of seven modern disciplines ranging from biomedical data science to immunoengineering to computational medicine.
Run jointly between the Johns Hopkins schools of Engineering and Medicine, the Department of Biomedical Engineering also holds the nation’s No. 1 spot in the U.S. News ranking of the best Undergraduate Biomedical Engineering Programs.
