Raymond Cheong wins Michael Shanoff Award

March 16, 2012

Raymond Cheong, an MD/PhD student in the lab of Dr. Andre Levchenko, was awarded the highly prestigious Michael Shanoff Award by the 2012 Young Investigators’ Day Committee. Raymond will be recognized along with other awardees at the Young Investigators’ Day Program on April 13, 2012.

The purpose of Young Investigators’ Day is to encourage and celebrate the research from all trainees at the School of Medicine. The Michael A. Shanoff Research Award was established in 1977 in memory of Shanoff, who received his M.D. and Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in 1973.

Raymond’s research aims to understand how cells use their signaling networks to interpret and process information provided by biochemical cues. One of his major research contributions was discovering and measuring fundamental limits to how much information various canonical signaling networks can transmit.

“Historically, recipients of the Shanoff award have become highly distinguished scientists, so it is a remarkable honor,” Raymond said. “I’m delighted that the Young Investigators’ Day committee decided to recognize my research with the award, and it motivates me to continue to do excellent research.”
